There are a lot of good youth hostels so don't worry of you have not sorted out your accomodation. There are always rooms available once you get there as students tend to move a lot, so it is easier to find accommodation while you are there.

There's a lot of opportunities for day trips to nice cities within a one and a half hour train trip (not expensive). And in the city itself there's of course enough to see.

try to travel as musch as you can around all the north of Italy. Near Ca'Foscari there is the travel agency for students, they have the best prices for the cars.

Trains are very cheap from venice, and since it is also a touristic city the airport flies everywhere. There is a good hospital (for emergencies) and there are embassies and consulates everywhere. If ever there is a problem you can go into your co...

Some people like Venice for a day or two, otherwise the completely different way of life (without cars etc.) seems to complicated etc.
If you like hiking, the Belluno Dolomites are only one hour away.
Another way of saving a little bit of money...
